Nothing comes close to ColorOS in terms of customization and smoothness. Oppo’s software skin is just about to get better with the ColorOS 17 update. From the frosted glass effect to the lockscreen island feature, here’s everything ColorOS 17, based on Android 17, brings to the table. Let’s take a detailed look at ColorOS 17 update, eligible devices, features, and release date.

ColorOS 17 Features
1. Smoother Animations And Performance
One thing that Oppo has nailed with ColorOS is the smoothness and animations. With the ColorOS 17 update, Oppo plans to take it to the next level by upgrading its Luminous Rendering Engine. Folder opening animations feel more natural, and it looks like apps are physically entering the folder. And it’s not just animations, as performance has improved too. You can expect faster app launches and fewer background stutters. RAM management has also been improved, so apps stay in the memory for longer.
2. Lockscreen Island

Oppo isn’t just copying iOS with ColorOS 17 update, but also Samsung’s One UI. The Now Bar feature in Samsung phones is coming to Oppo phones, dubbed Lockscreen Island. You can check details for media playback, calls, sports score, navigation, and more. And unlike Now Bar, it will have transparent and even support for third-party apps.
3. Better Homescreen Categorization

The ColorOS 17 update will help you organize your homescreen better. There are new options to help you better sort your homescreen:
- By category: AI will analyze the screen and sort the homescreen icons into different categories, such as gaming, finance, work, etc.
- By color: Homescreen will be organized based on the color of the icon. Example: All red icons in one folder, all yellow icons in one folder, and so on. It will add icons to the homescreen based on the wallpaper.
- By layout history: Lets you choose from previous homescreen layouts.
4. Textured Visual Effects

ColorOS 17 will introduce a new frosted glass effect across the UI. All these changes feel more cohesive and natural, bringing ColorOS 17 one step closer to iOS. You get three new textured effects available in the Settings:
- Visual Blur: Adds real-time blur across the notification panel, quick settings, and home screen folders
- Contour Glow: Home Screen, Lock Screen, Quick Settings, and the rest of the UI now have a more refined lighting effect.
- Animation Blur: When you launch or exit an app, icons and wallpaper get blurred in the background.
5. Frosted Glass Effect And Floating Bar In Apps

The ColorOS 17 update will bring Oppo devices one step closer to iPhones. It will feature rounded corners and a frosted glass effect similar to Apple’s Liquid Glass. Not just that, you will see floating bars at the bottom just like iOS. This is evident in system apps like Phone, Contacts, App Cleaner, Clock, and Files. You also get a glowing effect when you enter your PIN on the lockscreen, and searching for an app now shows a list view.
6. AirDrop Support and Call/Notification Sharing with iPhone

With Google finally adding native AirDrop support in Quick Share, Oppo phones will gain this functionality in the ColorOS 17 update. So you can finally share those crisp Hasselblad photos with your iPhone buddies to make them jealous. And not just that, if you have an iPhone, you can share calls and notifications with it using the new O+ Connect app. It lets you use your Oppo phone as a companion device.
7. Colorful Widgets For Always On Display
When enabling full-screen Always On Display in the ColorOS 17 update, you will see colorful widgets. You can now easily identify these widgets, and they use the same gradient as your wallpaper, making them stand apart.
8. Expanded Notifications

With ColorOS 17, the first notification will be expanded while the rest will remain collapsed. Currently, if you receive multiple notifications, all of them remain collapsed. You need to manually expand them to read more details.
